If there is any one thing besides carpet stretching that we face daily it is urine contamination. It seems everyone has house pets just about so it’s very common to have pet urine problems.

Your carpet system is comprised of the carpet, polyester mesh and latex coated backing, a carpet pad and wood tack strips that hold the carpet in place.

Thanks to gravity that golden liquid will travel. Many customers just don’t get it, just clean the carpet and make the smell go away. Unfortunately many carpet cleaners believe this too. As seen above all that urine has made its way down and no amount of carpet cleaning or smell good juice is going to solve your problem. For the sake of liability let me emphasize “your problem”. The carpet manufacturer voids your 25 year carpet warranty once urine gets in it for a very good reason – it’s considered damaged. We’ve done some real nasties and have seen it all, we get severely brow beat when it’s not 100% perfect again. Now, there are so many snake oil products out there that promise Odor Removal, Stain Removal and you name it. So many consumers try it only to be disappointed. You can pour an enzyme onto a pee spot and just walk away hoping for a miracle but it isn’t happening. Carpet Cleaners too, another urine product comes out, they advertise the script right from the jug and dissapointment all over again.

As pet urine removal specialists in San Diego we know it’s a repair not a clean. We have to get to every level of your carpet system, treat it or replace it. Are you still with me? Sounds like too much work just clean it!

So, many think it’s just an extra extra sell to get more money. I say great, call someone else. There is nothing better than getting on our knees, rolling up the carpet to get to the pad while getting old fermented oily pet urine all over us. You can get one of the Chemical Jug believers that call themselves carpet cleaners to just clean it with that new special stuff. If you’re serious about so are we, we have to get to all the sources of odor. Let me try to divert you again to the cleaning only guy – it’s going to cost you. Not only that but I’m not going to guarantee that it will be 100% odor free. Odor Control efforts have to be taken after that, we will walk you through it.

Our 1st option on a cement subfloor is subsurface cleaning. This is cheaper. If it’s cat urine contamination along baseboards then in addition the effected tack strips get replaced.

Once that is done the carpet is cleaned.

Our severe option is to pull the carpet back, remove the urine soaked pad, replace any contaminated tack strips, clean the subfloor, seal the subfloor,  lay out plastic, lay carpet back out, flood it with our chemistry, subsurface clean it, do it again to remove the urine from the backing, pull carpet back, install new pad, tack strips and lay carpet back down, clean, dry then reinstall.

You betcha that’s a lot of work but like I said you will pay for it. I could sugar coat to sell but we don’t cheapen what we do and we do not cut corners just motivated for quality.

Now for you that think using your Bissel on it 1st, well think about it 1st. Home machines are electric, small and do not have ballance between water output and vacuum extraction. You drive alot of water into the backing that you can’t get out and compound the problem driving it deeper and spreading out the contaminated areas.

Lastly, all too many times we’ve done single contaminated rooms. The costs to do what we do were 30%-60% of replacement costs. If you have seperate room that is largely contaminated you should get an estimate for complete replacement and weight that cost against our charges: $8 per sq ft for our 1st option to subsurface only and $17 per sq ft for the intense option 2.
